The upgrade process for PHP 5.3 to 5.5 has been in several phases, and in November 2015, we enter the final phase: decommissioning the PHP 5.3 platform.
See below for the migration schedule, last updated with updated deadlines at 26 November 2015.
Year | Month | Day | Descripton |
2014 | September | 1 | PHP 5.5 introduced as standard platform |
2015 | September | 1 | HTTPS setup with dedicated sertificates are now installe exclusively on PHP 5.5 servers |
2015 | November | 16 - 27 | Manual upgrade of selected customers |
2015 | November | 30 | Automatic, systematic upgrade starts |
2015 | December | 22 | Automatic, systematic upgrade completes |
2016 | January | 1 | Downgrade option is disabled |
2016 | January | 12 | Customers who have previously downgraded to 5.3, are upgraded to 5.5 |
2016 | Januar | 19 | The last PHP 5.3 webserver is decommissioned |
Option for postponing
Customers who have upgraded themselves or who have been automatically upgraded, have the option to downgrade for up to 14 days after the upgrade started. HTTPS customers must be manually handled by a technician.
This option is removed at year's end 2015.
At the beginning of 2016, the technical security support for the PHP 5.3 platform is terminated. This means that the operating system with all its software and libraries can no longer be safely offered to our customers. We cannot postpone the decommissioning of PHP 5.3 servers beyond January 2016.
In case of critical security vulnerabilities we may be forced to expedite the last stages of the upgrade schedule. This is why we have made every effort that all customers should be upgraded to the PHP 5.5 platform within the end of 2015, and that only selected customers with very special requirements are permitted to continue using the PHP 5.3 platform in the beginning of January.
