How do I filter spam in Outlook?

In Outlook (not Outlook Express!), you can filter the email headings, e.g. "To:", "From:" and "Subject:", in addition to defining own headers to filter. A possible set-up is to direct email from example@example.com to a separate folder.

All emails through Domainnameshop's mail servers are flagged with a header if they are likely to be spam. This header is called "X-Spam-Flag:", and it is set to "YES" if an email is likely to be spam.

How to configure spam filtering in Outlook 2003 (English version): Choose "Tools | Rules and Alerts" from the menu. The filtering configuration menu appears:

Choose "New Rule" from the menu. The following menu appears:

Choose "Blank Rule" and "Check messages when they arrive". Click "Next". The below menu appears:

Define what the filter should sort by. In this example, we have chosen "with specific words in the message header". When checking this, a link with the words "specific words" appears in the field below. Click on the link to define what word to filter. The below menu appears:

Enter "X-Spam-Flag: YES" and click "Add". Then click "OK". The menu below appears:

Define what to do with email containing the header "X-Spam-Flag: YES". In this example, we have chosen "move it to the specified folder". When checking this, a link with the word "specified" appears in the field below. Click on it to define what folder to move the email to. The below menu appears:

We have chosen to move the spam email to the folder "Junk E-mail". After selecting the folder, click "OK". The below menu appears:

Choose possible exceptions from the rule. We have chosen no exceptions in this example; All email containing the "X-Spam-Flag: YES" header are moved to the "Junk E-mail" folder. To proceed, click "Finish". The below menu appears:

Name the filter. We have chosen "Spamfilter" in this example. To finish and save the new filter, click "Finish".
