What is the maximum size of emails and attachments?
Note! Email is not well suited for sending large documents and files. The larger a message is, the greater the chance of a problem.

Domainnamehop's limits

The following approximate limits apply. Please note that if your email account is nearly full, you cannot receive messages that would exceed your account's available space.

Other providers

Google Gmail and Workspace50 MB25 MB
Microsoft 36525-150 MB25-150 MB

Many providers limit received message sizes to between 2 and 75 MB per message, resulting in uncertain delivery for large messages.

Software

Several email clients restrict message size. Check your software's documentation.

Recommendations

We recommend sharing large files with file sharing software (Dropbox, Google Drive, Jottacloud, Icloud, Onedrive, etc.), or FTP.

We do not recommend reading or sending large attachments via webmail, since this may be slow. Also, if an attachment upload fails, you must try again from the start.

Email account

Each email account has 15 GB of disk space (disk quota). It is possible to upgrade to 50 GB. If someone tries to send you an email that would cause your account to exceed its disk quota, the sender will receive a system error message ("disk quota exceeded"). We therefore recommend that you frequently delete email from your inbox on our servers, or move the messages to a local folder on your own computer.

Our servers check weekly whether any account uses more than 80% or 98% of the quota. If so, a warning message is sent to this account. The warning message will not be re-sent, unless the account has used all available space.
