PhpBB is a free, open-source forum available for download at
http://www.phpbb.com.
Please note that phpBB has had many serious security holes. It is therefore extremely important that you keep track of and install security updates for this software. If you fail to do this, you risk losing data, and we may close the forum without prior warning. Subscribe to the phpBB mailing list here to be alerted of new updates, and pay close attention to any updates on the phpBB home page.
First, enter the location address for the installation, e.g. http://www.mittnavn.no/install/install.php.
If you located it in a folder called phpbb/, enter http://www.mittnavn.no/phpbb/install/install.php.

In the above fields, enter the following configuration, mittnavn (myname) is your domain name:
- Default board language: No options, only English
- Database Type: MySQL 4.x
- Choose your installation method: Install
- Database Server Hostname/DSN: mittnavn.mysql.domeneshop.no
- Your Database Name: mittnavn
- Database Username: mittnavn
- Database Password: Your database password
- Prefix for tables in database: phpbb_ (appears automatically, can be left blank)
- Admin Email Address: Email address of the forum administrator
- Domain Name: Your domain name, e.g. www.mittnavn.no
- Server Port: 80
- Script Path: Blank if the forum is installed in the root, automatically
filled out if located in a folder in your
website
- Administrator Username: Username for the forum administrator
- Administrator Password: Password for the forum administrator
Click "Start Install".
A new screen appears. Click "Finish Installation".
In the third and last stage, you are for security reasons asked to delete the two folders install/ and contrib/. You can do it using an ftp program, e.g. SmartFTP, or log into Unix shell (100 MB webhotell or larger).
